CDC Finds Few Americans Follow Guidelines for Produce Consumption, Physical Activity

A report released on Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds that just one in seven American adults meets federal guidelines for produce consumption and physical activity, Reuters reports. To determine what percentage of Americans eat produce at least five times daily and regularly engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, CDC researchers analyzed survey data from 356,112 individuals participating in the 2005 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System study. Researchers found that, overall, 14.6 percent of adult Americans met both recommendations, with 16.6 percent of women and 12.4 percent of men meeting the goals.
