A number of West Virginia-developed health initiatives, including the CARDIAC Project, a statewide health screening program, the popular Dance Dance Revolution program known as West Virginia Games for Health and the “I am Moving, I am Learning” Head Start series have received tremendous national attention, in part as the only statewide projects of their type in the nation, and the professionals who are leading them are now being sought to share their experiences and expertise throughout the country.

Governor Kaine Releases Preliminary Report as State Works on Strategies for Fighting Obesity

"The Governor has directed CHAMPION staff in the Virginia Department of Health to review public and private programs that relate to each of the four themes for proven practices that can be implemented in communities throughout Virginia. The programs will be judged on their cost effectiveness, ease of implementation, cultural sensitivity, and scientifically proven results.
Examples of successful programs include “I am Moving, I am Learning,” used by Virginia Head Start programs to teach nutrition and physical activity to pre-school students."
