Schools Pushing ‘Wellness’

Policies designed to make the next generation healthier

FAIRMONT — As the weather warms and Mother Nature begins to give us her best, many people spend more time outside. As they begin to prepare for bathing suit season and conditioning their bodies for hiking and biking, getting healthier becomes more of a concern.

Officials in Marion County schools are concerned about health year-round. As more surveys and studies are performed, information indicates if children see healthy behaviors early and learn about healthy choices, they’ll make those choices later in life.

This year, teachers and school support staff are more focused on healthy children. Not just the health of the body, but health of the whole individual, physically, mentally and emotionally. In the schools, they call this concept “wellness.”
