New Jersey health officials this week announced the creation of a state Office of Nutrition and Fitness, which will lead a range of efforts to stem obesity, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. The new agency, slated to open this summer, will manage more than $2 million in new and existing obesity prevention programs, as well as coordinate efforts to implement recommendations made last year by the New Jersey Obesity Prevention Task Force. Specifically, the office will oversee efforts to promote physical activity, fruit and vegetable consumption, and breast-feeding as key components of healthier lifestyles.
