Like the rest of the country, Austin has a problem with childhood obesity. If it’s not fixed, those overweight kids can grow up and develop serious health problems.
These days, kids are enjoying living in a technology-driven world. Whether it is watching television or playing video games on the Internet, it’s the only exercise some kids see.
“There is a problem with obesity. In particular East Austin and eastern Travis County,” Lynn David says, program coordinator with the Austin Travis County Health and Human Services Department.
Thanks to a program called ‘Steps to a Healthier Austin,’ others kids are playing, too. Under the program, a number of non-profit groups like Youth Interactive, work to get kids healthy.
