New York Foundation Awards $50 Million to Curb Childhood Obesity

On Monday, the Greater Rochester Health Foundation announced a ten-year, $50 million plan to fight childhood obesity in Monroe County, N.Y., the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports. The foundation will focus on supporting programs that address obesity among children younger than 5 by teaching them improved fitness and eating habits, educating their parents about healthy meals and discouraging television watching. Funding recipients include the Hip-Hop to Health Jr. programs at 48 group family child care sites and the Eat Well Play Hard programs at 12 child care centers.
