Oklahoma Bill Would Double Time Allotted for In-School Physical Activity

Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a measure that would increase the required amount of in-school physical activity from 60 minutes to 120 minutes weekly for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, the Associated Press reports. Introduced by state Sen. Mary Easley (D-Tulsa), the bill aims to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity by maximizing the amount of time children spend participating in physical education, exercise programs, fitness breaks, recess, classroom activities, and wellness and nutrition education.
