Local Moms' Stories Wanted for Book on Teaching Kids Healthy Habits

TriState Observer
Thursday, June 19, 2008

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation are looking for every day moms living in urban areas who are teaching their families healthy habits. Based on the concept that moms best learn from each other, the Dell family foundation and the Alliance are co-producing a book featuring profiles of moms who are forging a healthy path for their children.

The stories may include community initiatives started by mothers or simple habits individual moms have incorporated into their own homes. Did a mom replace the candy and fried foods with fresh fruits for her children's snacks? Does she regularly serve healthy meals to her family and educate them about the benefits of a healthy diet? Does her family do physical activities together? Has a mom replaced high-calorie fast food such as French fries with healthy meals that include vegetables? Anyone may nominate a mom they know, or a mom can nominate herself.
