2008 Nemours Conference on Child Health Promotion Oct. 23-24

Nemours Health and Prevention Services (NHPS) will host The 2008 Nemours Conference on Child Health Promotion, Thursday & Friday, October 23-24, at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. This year’s theme is Advocacy, Policy and Progress in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity. Learn what is being done in Delaware and across the country to create healthier environments for children and families.

Over one and one-half days, 40 speakers and 17 sessions will cover a variety of topics including the economic impact of obesity, designing livable communities, creating successful partnerships and coalitions, and using marketing techniques to influence policy and behavior.

Hear from some of the nation’s pre-eminent speakers on issues affecting children’s physical and emotional well-being, including Keynote Speaker, Angela Glover Blackwell, Founder and CEO, PolicyLink. Other speakers are Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO, Harlem Children’s Zone, Sally Squires, Former Health and Medical Writer for the Washington Post, and Joseph Thompson, MD, Surgeon General of Arkansas. Conference attendees are also invited to attend a special dinner on Thursday, October 23 with Dan Heath, author of Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die and columnist at Fast Company magazine.

This is one of the nation’s pre-eminent conferences dedicated to children’s health promotion and disease prevention. Anyone working to reverse the trend of childhood obesity is encouraged to attend.
