The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, the philanthropic affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF), has approved $835,068 in grants to nine nonprofit programs that are successfully fighting the childhood obesity epidemic in Florida.

The grants are part of The Blue Foundation's $8 million, four-year strategic effort called Embrace a Healthy Florida, a statewide initiative addressing the causes of childhood obesity through public-private partnerships across Florida.

"An important component to fighting childhood obesity is supporting community-based programs that are currently working to reduce childhood obesity," said Susan Towler, executive director of The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. "These grantees are promoting change in families and parenting, childcare centers and schools, neighborhood recreation opportunities and the accessibility of healthy food and physical activity."
