CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia first lady Gayle Manchin hopes U.S. first lady Michelle Obama will come to the state this summer to lend momentum to a national movement to get kids in shape.
Both first ladies are trying to direct some of the attention that comes with their positions toward the nation's obesity epidemic.
Manchin helped back the state's Healthy Lifestyles Initiative, which has among other things increased the nutrition and physical education requirements for school children and made sure they have periodic health screenings.
