Experience
Lead trainer and founder of Choosy Kids Linda Carson has assembled an exemplary team of trainers who have worked with thousands of teachers, trainers, and parents as well as many public, health professionals and their partners across the country. The content of our training is so universal that it blends comfortably with a variety of approaches and models for health promotion. Choosy Kids was honored to be selected as the National Training Team for the Office of Head Start's "I Am Moving, I Am Learning (IMIL)" initiative to combat childhood obesity.
In 2007, IMIL was rolled out nationwide and passionately embraced by almost 400 Head Start grantees reaching approximately 200,000 children. An additional 115 grantees were trained in early 2008, bringing the total estimated children reached by the national launch of IMIL to 263,000. In May 2008, OHS hosted a Training of Facilitators event for teams from each region. The Choosy Kids training team was honored to participate in preparing the Regional Facilitators for expanding the IMIL training nationwide. By the end of 2009, it was estimated that nearly one half million children have been exposed to some aspect of IMIL.
Choosy Kids trainers also conduct multi-agency events. During the summer of 2007, Choosy Kids led a statewide IMIL training collaborative effort in Virginia sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health W.I.C. Division and included participants from W.I.C., Head Start as well as their program partners, cooperative extension, and allied health professionals from a variety of public health agencies.
Training events and staff development efforts can be customized, and are designed to include fun along with content areas of child wellness, obesity "prevention" strategies, motor skill instruction and assessment, intentional planning, and innovative motivating activities to promote healthy, active lifestyles for grownups and children.
